We need about a dozen volunteers to help out with Hot Chips 2009. Send me an E-mail and tell me a little about your background and why you would like to help out. If you were a volunteer last year you get priority and I will be contacting you directly to see if you want to help again. Hot Chips is particularly interested in current students working in the field of computer architecture. I will be notifying volunteers of acceptance in May.

Why should I volunteer for HOT CHIPS?

For the free limited-edition conference shirt, of course! Where else can you get an embroidered shirt that says "HOT Staff". Plus the numerous benefits including:

  • Attending one of the leading conferences on chip architectures •
  • Great networking opportunity
  • Free registration for conference and tutorial
  • Great meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • Nice Hot Chips shirt (but I already mentioned that)
  • Great victory party
  • Copy of conference proceedings on flash drive

Whom do I contact to volunteer?

For additional information or to express your interest, please contact volunteer2009@hotchips.org.

What are the typical tasks done by Volunteers?

  1. Assist with registration
  2. Distribute badges, conference proceedings, tutorial notes
  3. Stuff book bags, sponsor materials
  4. Get conference items from storage locker
  5. Put up parking signs and banners around Stanford campus
  6. Put up internal signs for directing the conference crowd
  7. Direct crowd during breaks
  8. Wrap up conference and prepare for HOT Interconnects
  9. Return conference materials back to the storage locker

It sounds like a lot of work, but don’t worry… much of the work occurs on the Saturday before the conference starts and during the two morning registration periods. You will get to attend most of the technical sessions, especially the ones you have a particular interest in.
